Pregnancy testing & ultrasound exams
Clearer information starts with the right question.
Pregnancy testing and ultrasound services at Life Choices are free. A test can detect hCG, while an ultrasound may add information about pregnancy location and timing.
Test Check for hCG
Ultrasound Add context
Information for the next decision, not pressure toward one.
What each step can tell you
Two tools. Two different kinds of information.
Testing and ultrasound are related, but they do not answer the same questions. Knowing the difference can help you understand why one may come before the other.
Pregnancy testing
Is the pregnancy hormone hCG present?
A urine pregnancy test looks for human chorionic gonadotropin, or hCG. A positive result usually means pregnancy, while testing too early can sometimes produce a negative result even when pregnancy has begun.
Limited ultrasound
What additional context can imaging provide?
Ultrasound uses sound waves to create images. Depending on timing and the purpose of the exam, a limited ultrasound may help answer specific early-pregnancy questions.
- 01 Whether the pregnancy appears to be developing inside the uterus
- 02 An estimate of gestational age
- 03 Whether cardiac activity is visible at that point in pregnancy
A simple appointment pathway
Know what to ask before you arrive.
